The Complete Goju Ryu Technique Video Library
Our primary objective is to provide a definitive technical video reference library for all student members of the EGKA (the English Goju Ryu Karate-do Association).
Starting from the beginning at 10th Kyu, and working forward grade by grade, Sensei Ernie and Sensei Roy explain and demonstrate many aspects of the complete EGKA training syllabus. This subscription service builds into a reference library that will help students better understand the karate they practice in their dojo.

Apart from being the EGKA´s Chief Instructor, Sensei Ernie also sits on the International Executive Committee of the IOGKF and works to preserve the traditional teachings of Okinawan Goju Ryu karate-do.
For this reason, this online resource library will be just as relevant to any student of an IOGKF affiliated Goju Ryu dojo where ever they happen to live in the World, not just here in England.
Although we are proud of the karate video library we have put together here, we are also the first to acknowledge that it is only an aid, and not a substitute, to training in a dojo.
We are fortunate in England to have so many higher grade Goju Ryu karate instructors offering training right across the country. To find your nearest EGKA dojo, visit the EGKA website. You should also visit the IOGKF website. Alternatively, just carry out a Google search for Goju Ryu in your town or country.
All-style Kumite Library
Our kumite section will be of interest to all martial artists of any style, not just students of Goju Ryu.
We all take pride in the style of martial arts each of us follow. Although the diversity in teaching methods might suggest otherwise, when it comes to effective kumite techniques, the actual differences between styles at this level are noticeable by their very absence.
If you are a committed kumite competitor, you will find plenty of material within our library that may just give you the edge as you step on to the competition mat.
Sensei Ernie has won titles on the International competition circuit, and he speaks with the kind of authority that only comes from someone who has been there and done it.
In contrast, many of us enjoy karate with no intention of testing our skills at a competitive level. For us, kumite is limited to the light sparring that forms a fundamental part of all karate training practiced in the dojo.
This kind of kumite practice should be fun, but many us don´t enjoy the experience until we become proficient enough to stand our ground and give as good as we get with an element of skill thrown in for good measure.
Kumite proficiency only comes with practice. Partnering up with a friend, and running through one of the many attack and defence drills we have put together within our library will help you achieve what you are looking for.
Protection for Everyone
Remembering how to apply one of the very simple self defence techniques demonstrated here may just save you from further harm if you have the misfortune to be attacked.
Of course prevention is better than cure. Our suggestions on avoiding getting into harm‘s way in the first place, are based on simple common sense principles. So many victims ignore their instincts and walk straight into danger with their eyes wide ‘shut’. Don´t be one of them!
Confrontations also tend to follow a depressingly predictable pattern of mounting verbal abuse and physical posturing by the aggressor. If you keep your head, you may be able to use some of our anger management techniques to calm things down and defuse the threat.
If you are attacked, then the self defence moves we demonstrate have to be simple otherwise you won´t remember how to use them.
We show you how you can distract your attacker long enough to allow you to escape. Although Queensberry Rules don´t apply in a real fight, you must remember the Law only allows you to use reasonable force to defend yourself. Overstep that mark and you become the aggressor.
Which leads us nicely on to what happens when the Police become involved. They have a difficult job to do, and even as a completely innocent victim of an unprovoked attack, you may find their ensuing investigation more harrowing than the actual attack itself. Knowing how the Police proceed may help you through the investigation.
